There are many styles of homeschooling and many reasons to homeschool. Our style is Semi-Structured and Common Core Based. (I’ll wait while you cringe because I used the phrase “Common Core.”) It’s the dreaded phrase these days, but I’m not phased by it.
The “common core” of our academic system is just a standard. A set of rules written out and defined so we can stay in sync. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start and a great starting point. If it’s used as it should be – it’s a baseline and a guide for what to teach each year. So we use it for just that – It’s my outline for the year-at-a-glance, and I choose curriculum and lessons that cover certain aspects to align with the standards.

Choosing the right curriculum is where we get to have fun, be creative, and really cater to your child’s learning style.
Our third grade subjects:
• Social Studies (US Geography)
• Art & Technology
• Health & Physical Education
• Language Arts
In the near future, I’ll be updating this post and linking each subject to pages with more lesson details and great resources I’ve found in my travels and research.
